Released: November 19, 2006 Genre: Action/Shooter Publisher: Ubisoft
Of all the Wii’s launch titles, Red Steel was one of the most anticipated, and mixed-reviewed. You play as a guy named “Scott” who just so happens to be dating the daughter of a Japanese mob boss (it happens to everyone at least once!). And just when your about to meet your future daddy, the place gets ambushed, daddy gets shot, and your beloved is KIDNAPPED. Luckily for you, you’re pretty handy with a pistol (giggity). Now you must shoot and slash your way to the rescue, and you’ll just have to play it to find out the rest.
The “professionals” over at IGN and Gamespot didn’t seem to think too highly of it. They said the controls were finicky, the graphics were last-gen, and the story was weak. Much of the public seemed to think differently, while others agreed.
Controls Probably the biggest concern for most people. Many said that it was unresponsive at times, and turning was slow. The turning was admittedly slow, but that didn’t seem to hinder my game play. As for the unresponsiveness…are we playing the same gameIt seems that a lot of people are having a hard time adjusting to the new controls, and are still stuck on the classic controllers. This being said, for all those nonbelievers, expect the controls to get much tighter and smoother in future releases. This is a whole new deal. Cut the developers some slack.
